What Is Bandwidth?

Bandwidth is the resource consumed by all transactions on TRON, measured in bytes. Every TRON account automatically receives 600 free bandwidth points per day — enough for 1-2 basic TRX transfers. For basic transfers (sending TRX or TRC10 tokens), bandwidth is all you need. You can obtain more bandwidth by staking TRX.

What Is Energy?

Energy is the additional resource required for smart contract execution on TRON. Since TRC20 tokens are smart contracts, every TRC20 token transfer requires energy in addition to bandwidth. Sending USDT TRC20 is calling a function inside the USDT smart contract, which is why it costs more than sending TRX directly.

How Fees Are Paid

When you initiate a TRC20 transfer, the network checks whether your wallet has sufficient bandwidth and energy. If it does not, TRX is deducted from your balance.
