What Is USDT TRC20 and How Does It Work?

USDT TRC20 is Tether's USDT stablecoin issued on the TRON blockchain under the TRC20 token standard. It is pegged 1:1 to the US dollar and combines dollar stability with TRON's speed and low cost.

Why USDT on TRON?

Tether began issuing USDT on TRON in 2019. TRON's near-zero fees and fast transaction speeds made it ideal for daily crypto transfers, cross-exchange settlements, and cross-border payments. Today, USDT-TRC20 dominates global stablecoin volume, processing roughly $20 billion per day.

How to Send USDT TRC20

To send USDT TRC20, you need a TRON-compatible wallet and a small amount of TRX in the same wallet to cover network fees. USDT TRC20 transfers require both bandwidth and energy. If your wallet does not have enough energy, TRX will be burned to cover the cost.

A typical USDT TRC20 transfer consumes approximately 65,000 energy units. If you send frequently, staking TRX to obtain energy is more cost-effective than paying per transaction.

Receiving USDT TRC20

To receive USDT TRC20, provide your TRON address (starting with "T") and ensure the sender selects "TRC20" or "TRON" as the network. If they send via ERC20 or another network, the funds will not arrive.

Important

Always confirm both sides are using TRC20 / TRON network before sending. Mismatched networks result in permanent loss of funds.

USDT TRC20 vs USDT ERC20

Both are USDT — both are worth $1. The difference is the network. TRC20 costs under $0.01 per transfer. ERC20 can cost several dollars per transaction due to Ethereum gas fees. For exchange withdrawals and cross-border transfers, TRC20 is the dominant choice worldwide.
